What many would consider their worst nightmare has become a reality for Christopher Yuan. While attending dental school, he began living promiscuously as a homosexual and experimenting with illicit drugs. Within a few years, he was expelled from dental school, imprisoned for drug dealing and discovered that he was HIV positive.

But God has turned his nightmare into an exciting and inspiring story of redemption, grace and transformation. Christopher has an understanding heart for and a desire to minister to those working through issues of sexuality and to those living with HIV/AIDS. He speaks locally and internationally to youth, on college campuses, in churches and in prisons.

Christopher graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 2005 and Wheaton College Graduate School in 2007 with a Master of Arts in Biblical Exegesis and is currently pursuing a doctorate of ministry at Bethel Seminary. He now teaches at Moody while continuing his speaking ministry which has reached four continents around the world. Christopher has spoken at both Saddleback Church and Willow Creek Community Church in America and at many conferences including InterVarsity's Urbana and the Moody Pastors' Conference and Men's Conference. He is also featured in the award-winning documentary, "HOPE Positive: Surviving the Sentence of AIDS" and has co-authored with his mother, Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son's Journey to God, A Broken Mother's Search for Hope (forthcoming May 3, 2011 by WaterBrook Multnomah a division of Random House).

HIV on the Rise Among Young Gay Men in NY

HIV infection rates among gay men under 30 in New York is on the rise as discussed in the New York Daily News. Why is that? Here are their reasons.

The NY Health Commissioner believes that a "generation of men is growing up having not seen their friends die of AIDS, and maybe having the impression that HIV is not such a terrible infection."

Or he believes it may be linked to the need for teens to hide their sexuality. "The pressure of covering up means you put yourself in riskier situations than if you could go on a date and ask out who you like."

"Family News in Focus" a daily, news radio spot will interview me to get my perspective on why I believe HIV infections may be on the rise among gay men. I'll post my thoughts after the interview.

you can be christian and be gay. In the world, heterosexual have high percent of AIDS and HIV not only homosexual is the only one.
GOD is not against homosexual orientations but their sinful acts towards the visitors. Jonathan and David story does inspire the true homosexual love and loving GOD as well.

Thank you for your comments even though most of your comments are not in response to this post except your second sentence. I agree that HIV/AIDS around the world is mostly heterosexual but this article in the New York Daily News only deals with New York City's rise in HIV infection among young gay men. This is a fact, read the article.

Your three other comments I disagree with. I am unclear about the support (or lack of) for your assertion that one can be a Christian and gay. Of course one can say that they are a Christian and gay (just as someone can say that they are a Republican Democrat) but I stated in my post, "Gay Christian?", that being faithful to the Bible means that our identity is in Jesus Christ alone, not in any feeling or sexual attraction.

Your third sentence alludes to the passage in Ezekiel 16:49. But I would first like to clarify that God is against sinful behavior or acts not our struggles or temptations. You mention homosexual orientation and it is such a widely used term but there so much mystery around this term. There really isn't any objective way to test for this - NONE. There is no scientific way to explain sexual orientation other than being attracted to the same sex which is basically a feeling - and feelings are subjective not objective.

Back to the Ezekiel passage, several people have claimed that Ezekiel states that the "only" sin of Sodom was inhospitality. But this cannot be substantiated because the verse right after (16:50) states "Thus they were haughty and committed abominations before Me" and the word for "abominations" is toebah which in Hebrew is the same word used in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 which are both condemnation against homosexual behavior/acts. There is no way that one can get around the fact that homosexual acts are condemned.

Then your last comments regarding Jonathan and David - this is not a new attempt at desperately trying to find biblical justification for homosexual acts. What you are referring to is 2 Sam 1:26 "I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women." Again, desperate attempts are made to find that Jonathan and David's love for each other was homosexual. But this is again totally unsubstantiated. David was far from homosexual - as a matter of fact, he was a raging heterosexual with at least 8 wives and many children and fell into heterosexual sin (adultery with Bathsheba). In addition, the Hebrew in 2 Sam 1:26 does not lend itself to a sexual relationship at all.

So all in all Jonathan, although I applaud that you are thinking about this subject, you are quite misguided in looking for answers according to what YOU want. Being a Christian means that "he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow [Christ]" (Luke 9:23). I pray that you might consider Christ and "follow Him."

STOP HIDING THE TRUE HISTORY WHICH IS A FACT. , Not Showing the verses that support homosexual is wrong from the bible. REMEMBER GOD HATES FEMINSIM WHO HIDES THE FACTS.

The bible clearly says that God is not against gay or different people. God is against lust, greed, and unfaithful. The most againstful thing that god hates is the slavery who turns thier back on him.

In begining in the bible what it talked about? THATS WHAT IT MATTERS. It wasnt the creation part.

The inhospitality in sodom clearly shows that the bad sodomites want to rape and kill people. Those gay people was preached by jesus and GOD and followed thier path. some turned away. A few was saved as loving same-sex couples.
Ezekiel 16:49. But I would first like to clarify that God is against sinful behavior or acts not our struggles or temptations. You mention homosexual orientation and it is such a widely used term but there so much mystery around this term

this shows the some sodomites are sinful, and some aren't. Some put god first before they are with a partner. Those gay people are struggling finding thier identity of who they are. They were experimenting thier love just like us. Remember Jesus wanted this world to be secret-free.

The story of jonathan and david, remember in history, in B.C. times while the rulers can have more than 1 wives, some are are allowed. Rememeber when these women and men spend times with same-sex more than they spend together as husband and wife. In real history, they did have inmate times with same sex as well. Kings, queens, knights, preist, monks (even china monks) , list goes on.
Remember those people do have feelings as human-beings. They dont want to be oppressed as today is happening all over the world.

Ceaser-The-Great did have same sex inimates. Its in the history book not in bible.

History tells it all clearly and in depth details. In old bibles did have alot of depth details. Today bible is very little confusing details.

David was in alot of fusterations of finding the true love that he wanted. He was not happy with the wives that he had being arranged by his parents. WHen jonathan and david spent the last time being together, its obvousily they had the pleasure of true GODs love when they were together. And they were happy spiritual people til they aparted.
See thier love was great together.

stop hiding the verses that shows true depth of love of each other. Theres words that shows inimates times as well.

the vereses you showed me is greatly God love in between same-sex

Dear Jonathan:

I'm not sure if English is your second language and if it is, I applaud your diligence in learning this difficult language. However if English is your native tongue, I would urge you to proofread your comments because it is difficult (if not impossible) to understand what your argument is through your spelling and grammatical errors.

I don't understand your point about hiding true history or feminism or about creation or Jesus preaching to gay people or the paragraph about secret-free or about the B.C. history/real history paragraph or "inimates" or old bibles/Today bible or "fusterations" ...

The Bible is clearly against homosexual behavior. You said that I'm hiding verses. But you didn't mention a single verse supporting your claim that God is not against homosexual behavior - NOT A SINGLE ONE!

This argument is not about what has occurred in history but rather what the Bible has to say about homosexuality. As I said in my previous comment, just because something occurred in past history does not justify it to be correct - and yet that is the only support you give.

Jonathan, you said that the Bible "clearly" says that God approves of homosexual behavior. Let me tell you, having read the Bible several times, there is none. I will await for you to come up with a verse to support your claim.

You talk of God's deep love for us. This is called unconditional love or in Hebrew it is hesed which means loving-kindness and in Greek it is agape. But unconditional love does not mean unconditional approval of our behavior. This can be clearly seen in John 8:11 when Jesus tells the woman caught in adultery, "Go and sin no more."

You also talk about "true depth of love" between people but love is not the same thing as sex. This is far from what the Bible teaches about love and sex. They are not the same.

The bottom line is that the Bible teaches that redemption and transformation is available to everyone through Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) including the homosexual (1 Corinthians 6:11).

In my previous comment, I gave you ample biblical support for your assertions and yet you claim that I'm "hiding" verses - please tell me which ones.

Jonathan, I am open to dialogue with you but if your comments are incoherent and your assertions are groundless, we are not able to even discuss on a basic level.

In addition, if you continue to accuse me (with no grounds) and come across disrespectfully, I will no longer be so patient with you and not allow your comments to be published. If I have misread the tone in your comments then I apologize and look forward to more open discussion.

Hey Christopher,
I've been reading your post and
I just wanna drop you a note to say that I appreciate your ministry and am praying for you. It's a spiritual battle. And although the enemy will be on the attack, the Lord will provide protection because He is the almighty. Stay close to the Lord and stay strong in Him!

I do have a prayer request. Please pray for youths and children in California public schools as they are being indoctrinated to accept this sinful lifestyle as something good and something to be embraced. Those who dare speak up against such indoctrination are being targeted. Please pray for protection of these families.

Dear Kaitee:

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I will be praying for the youth in California, that they will pursue Christ and not be distracted by the world. I will be in SF on Sept 19 and then on Sept 27 to speak with Luis Palau. Email me your email so I can add you to my update list (
